FAQ
Flystyle
Am I In Safe Hands with The FlyStyle?
An emphatic YES! Our instructors really have been teaching for years. They know all the great teaching tricks, and they have excellent judgment.
Why are Flystyle Paragliding & Speedflying Lessons the Absolute Best?
- We are distributors! We are a very large distributor of paragliding products, and we use almost brand-new equipment when teaching. New equipment makes a big difference in the safety and ease of learning.
- Advanced Technologies. We incorporate boat and truck towing with our Cloud Street Winch into our programs, which means that you're guaranteed the opportunity to fly thousands of feet over the ground. Up high, you can learn about 360's, big ears, speedbar use and a host of other maneuvers that can't be practiced when flying off of a hill.
- Utterly flexible. We teach year round, 7 days a week (weather permitting), and we can accommodate anyone’s schedule.
Why Learn with Flystyle?
Hours of AIRTIME, use the latest equipment/techniques, and personal instruction. Flystyle offers HOURS of hands-on airtime. This opportunity exists through around 3-10 instructional tandem flights (depending on the student's needs). Tandem instruction is: our specialty, and is an integral component of our training program and essential for the developing pilot. Students more readily absorb and understand flight aspects with an instructor by their side giving crucial feedback at the correct moments.
When is the Best Time to go Speedflying & Paragliding at the Flystyle Ranch?
SEASONS: We fly tandem and solo all year long and have amazing flights every month of the year. Winter has great flying but definitely doesn't get as many epic days of the week as other times of the year.
TIME OF DAY: Sunrise to sunset in the summer is often good for paragliding & speedflying in the summer. Ten AM to three PM is often a good time to fly in the heart of winter. The wind direction is most affected by the big-scale scenario, ie., the weather systems that move across the U.S.
Paragliding & speedflying is definitely weather dependent, but magic when we score. The forecasts these days are very accurate 5 days in advance, helping you plan for your scheduled upcoming tandem flight. Our gift vouchers are valid for one year, and currently are extended for an extra 3 months.
Paragliding
What Are Paragliding Lessons Like?
We pride ourselves on offering highly personalized, one-on-one (or one-on-two) instruction--and we take our time. Some students are comfortable with a quick progression, while others move along very slowly. We've learned that over the long term, the student that progresses more slowly at first will actually enjoy the process more. In the end, our students consistently exceed the USHPA minimum requirements for attaining a P2 rating, and they have a great time doing it.
What Happens After a Novice Paragliding Course?
Once you have completed your license course and have your all of your gear, you will be able to fly any paragliding site that suits your skill-rating. You will join the flying club of your local area, where you'll find a great network of free-flight pilots and future friends, who happily provide further assistance. There are endless possibilities to attend: events, competitions, fly-ins, clinics, and........
What's Better: Speedflying or Paragliding?
Note: we love do both as a hobby, but prefer speedflying (our passion) over paragliding for a few major reasons:
- Speedwings can fly in much more wind, making it 1) more likely to FLY on the day you want to fly and 2) SAFER if the wind strengthens.
- Speedwings can FLY in more turbulent air which is good for 1) strong thermals and 2) saftey. Speedwings have less risk of in-air "collapses" like paragliders do.
- Speedwings have a better glide-angle than paragliders, meaning they can FLY steeper, more controlled , and sample more dynamic conditions + thermals (FUN!).
- Speedwings can fly almost as slow as a paragliders, but also MUCH FASTER
- Speedwings feel like FLYING in your dreams! -controlled by shifting your weight & precise toggle control.
How Long Does it Take to Learn to Fly Paragliders?
Students usually finish courses and are competent, licensed, beginner pilots at around 10 training days.
What Do I Get With a Course?
TEN DAYS of training at various Oregon & Washington paragliding sites which includes: Site introduction and familiarization to sites such as Cape Kiwanda, Sollie, Bingen, Cliffside & more. Personalized instruction, 3-6 (student depending) tandem flights, 3 days on the training hills, & 10+ hours of theory. Free use of the latest equipment. Supervised SOARING flights. A novice rating (student depending) accredited by USHPA. A solid foundation of core flying skills to build upon. FUN, and a huge sense of accomplishment.
What Does it Feel Like to Paraglide & Speedfly?
The most common analogy is "it's like my dreams."
Do People Ever get Up There and Freak Out?
No, not one so far! –thousands of tandem flights. Injury free. We always give the option to the passenger to tell us if they'd like to go down and land, just after take-off. -No requests so far...
What If I'm Scared of Heights?
Well, it's NOT a falling or hanging sensation…it's a flying sensation! -The scariest part of the flight is thinking about it.
What happens If the wind stops?
Nothing! -a controlled, smooth, gliding decent to the LZ. Paragliders (and all aircraft) create their own "airspeed" from gravity, and gravity never stops.
Is Paragliding & Speedflying Physically Demanding?
No! It takes a light touch, not lots of muscle. Paragliding tandem with a good onshore breeze is not physically demanding whatsoever. We've shared the experience with many seniors, children, and folks with physical challenges. EVERYONE deserves to fly!
Is it Noisy from the Wind in Your Ears When you Paraglide or Speedfly?
No, it's about the amount of wind you hear in your ears when riding a bicycle. It's easy to have a chat with each other when flying tandem.
How Does a Glider Stay Up in the Air for an Extended Time?
Two ways...Ridge/mechanical lift: the wind reflecting off of an object and moving upward. Thermal lift: a column of rising air, caused from the ground heating.

Paramotor
Everyone Tells Me That Nirvana Paramotors Are Not for Beginners?
Why is the Price of the Nirvana Rodeo Slightly Higher than Other Brands?
One of the many advantages to the Rodeo is that it can be taken apart and put into the trunk of a small car in 5 minutes. You can be ready to fly within 6 minutes. You are paying slightly more for high quality equipment & you're also getting items other brands don't have or that are optional upgrades.
What about Spare Parts and Availability for Nirvana Paramotors?
We have the biggest stock of Paramotors and parts than any manufacturer or dealer in the USA. Parts or Paramotors and most Paragliders can be shipped out the same day they are ordered. We DO NOT take your money and tell you gear will be here in a few weeks like other manufactures and dealers do. We have a full service station with digital testers to do regular or annual check ups on your Paramotor to make sure your getting the best of out of your Paramotor! Our Customer service is second to none, anything you need we are here for you!
What about Reliability?
That is what Nirvana is famous for! Nirvana Paramotors are famous for their problem-free running and high level of safety. This is the most important condition for safe flying. The only thing that is left for you to do is to fill the tank with gas and go fly! If you are interested in flying then these are the Paramotors for you. If you want to spend most of your time on the ground fixing you Paramotor while your friends are flying then these Paramotors are not for you! When you receive your Paramotor all you need to do is take the plastic off, assemble it, mix gas and go fly! This takes just a few minutes and all you need is an Allen key which is provided. ( Items NOT needed Grinder, Files, Hammers, WD 40, silicone, zip ties, wire, tool box and phone numbers for the manufacture who will just tell you to contact someone else and that it's not their fault! ) How do I know this? Because I had dealt with these issues for years before I came across Nirvana. Now my customers are happy and I'm happy since I can fly now and not fix Paramotors. Another great thing about Nirvana Paramotors is that you don't have to worry about your engine falling apart while you're flying and things breaking your propeller, You can fly with confidence!
What about the Design, is it Strong, Really Strong?
Well, we all know that looks are not everything, although it does look better if your plane looks more like a Ferrari than a grass mower right? The substantial Nirvana design connects good looks and simple maintenance. All that, along with some finely tuned details will ensure you will receive the attention of not only the experts but also the general public. There was a lot of thought that went into the design of these Paramotors, they are very strong and have been designed to take a hard crash and not fall apart. The Frame is designed to take 200lbs of force before it will pop out of the bottom of the shell, this is so that the shell does not break and also protects the frame from breaking. The harness is very well designed as well with padding and a built in air cushion which stops vibration from the engine.
Tandem
Do you Have Two Tandem Instructors so that I Can Fly at the Same Time as my Friend?
Yes. Both passengers/students will get to fly with professional and certified tandem paragliding instructors.
What's Tandem Speedflying & Paragliding like Compared to Tandem Skydiving?
Well, both speedflying, paragliding and skydiving are fun and we recommend each! But if you have to choose, speedflying & paragliding provides: 10-30 minute flight Slow & peaceful AND/OR fast & exciting. You get to fly it! Spot wild life and fly with the Eagles. Experience the sensation of free-flight...like your dreams. No fossil fuels required.
What if the Weather's Bad on the day of my Tandem Flight?
If you wake up and it's raining, don't call the whole thing off YET! We often get beautiful days/flights from mornings that started out dreary. The most important factor of the weather is the WIND forecast. The rain, clouds, and sun may come and go many times throughout a day, providing epic opportunities. IF, the day does get called off because of the wind forecast (direction mostly)....no problem. -Just pick another date you'd like to book, or we'd be happy to help you pick a day in the next few days that looks suitable.
NOTE: We often fly! By using ALL of the major paragliding sites of the area. We provide the opportunity to fly with a wide range of wind conditions.
